He was devoted to Henry and served him quite faithfully, and, as a consequence, Henry bestowed many honors on him. His influence was reduced under King henry IV but, nonetheless, after that monarch's death, he helped to establish the regency of Queen marie de' medici. Épernon was finally removed from power by Cardinal richelieu.
